The Opportunity:

We are seeking an inspiring and experienced Second in Charge of Science to join a high-achieving department. This role offers the chance to lead and raise standards in Science teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4, within a supportive and ambitious team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the Science department in delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Work in partnership with the Head of Science to raise student outcomes and attainment.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies for improving teaching and learning across all levels.
  • Motivate and inspire students and colleagues to achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools to share best practice and resources.
  • Ensure the Science department is performing above national standards and continues to improve.
  • Support the development of schemes of work and pedagogical approaches in Science.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Excellent track record in raising attainment and examination results at Key Stage 4.
  • Outstanding teaching experience across Key Stage 3 and 4.
  • Proven ability to motivate students and staff.
  • Experience in raising expectations and aspirations of students of all abilities.
  • Understanding of effective strategies for urban schools.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading and managing a Science department.
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Experience within a federation or multi-academy trust.
