The Opportunity:

As a Secondary School Counsellor, you will be instrumental in promoting student wellbeing and fostering a positive, supportive environment. This role is central to embedding a culture of care and resilience across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive wellbeing and pastoral care programme for secondary students.
  • Provide individual and group counselling to support students’ emotional and social development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure consistent student support.
  • Deliver workshops and training sessions on mental health, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of wellbeing initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports in line with safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Support students in managing academic and personal challenges through proactive intervention.
  • Promote a culture of inclusivity, respect, and empathy across the school community.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Clinical or school counselling qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in school counselling.
  • Strong understanding of whole-school wellbeing models.
  • Excellent knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies and practices.

Preferred

  • A B.Ed or BA degree.
  • Experience in fostering a caring and supportive learning environment.
  • Passion for education and student well-being.
  • Experience contributing to the wider life of a school.
