As a SEN Primary Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting children with autism and social, emotional, and mental health needs. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, individualized lessons tailored to the needs of students with autism and additional needs.
  • Support students in managing challenging behavior by understanding the function of behavior and using positive strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with non-verbal students using tools such as Makaton, PECs, and PODD.
  • Collaborate with psychologists, teaching assistants, and therapy professionals to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Adapt lessons and curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students aged 4 to 11.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive classroom culture that encourages participation and achievement.
  • Work closely with parents and carers to ensure consistent support for students.
  • Participate in training and professional development to enhance teaching practice and student outcomes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant teaching experience.
  • Experience working with children with autism and additional needs, including those with challenging behavior.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-verbal students using alternative communication systems such as PECs and PODD.
  • Familiarity with autism strategies such as TEACCH and Attention Autism.
  • Flexibility to teach students across a wide age range (4 to 11 years).
  • Commitment to creating a bespoke and accessible curriculum that meets the needs of all learners.

Preferred

  • Experience with speech and language difficulties, sensory issues, or ADHD.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques tailored to students with autism.
  • Experience in delivering creative and innovative lessons that engage students with diverse needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-working skills.
