The Opportunity:

As an SENCO, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs and ensuring they receive the best possible education. You will work closely with teaching staff, parents, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. This is a key leadership role that has a real impact on student outcomes and school-wide strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective SEN policies and strategies across the school.
  • Coordinate assessments and support plans for students with special educational needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure individual needs are met.
  • Provide professional development and guidance to staff on SEN-related matters.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEN provision and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on student progress and interventions.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and support within the school community.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to SEN support.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience in a SEN setting.
  • Proven experience in a SENCO or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, parents, and professionals.

Preferred

  • Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Leadership experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Experience in developing and managing SEN policies and strategies.
  • Familiarity with assessment tools and interventions for students with special educational needs.
