The Opportunity:

A Senior Science Technician is needed to lead the technical provision in a dynamic and successful Science Department. This role supports over 1000 students across KS3–KS5, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of practical science in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day technical operations of the Science Department
  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of practical science across all key stages
  • Prepare and trial practicals, chemical solutions, and reagents in line with curriculum requirements
  • Oversee health and safety, including COSHH compliance, risk assessments, and CLEAPSS guidance
  • Maintain chemical stores and manage stock control and ordering of departmental resources
  • Support and develop other technicians to build confidence and consistency in practical delivery
  • Work closely with teaching staff to maintain high standards in the Science Department
  • Ensure all practical activities are curriculum-aligned and meet the highest standards of safety

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong knowledge of the secondary science curriculum from KS3 to KS5
  • Experience preparing and trialling practicals and chemical solutions
  • Familiarity with health and safety standards, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance
  • Proven ability to manage stock control and ordering of resources
  • Experience working in a school or educational setting

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or senior technician role
  • Experience with CPD delivery or staff development
  • Experience with health and safety audits or risk assessments
  • Experience with a diverse student population
