The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all students receive the tailored support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The successful candidate will shape the school’s SEN strategy and lead a team dedicated to student success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage SEN aspects of school transitions and advise on pupil needs at registration, including EHCPs.
- Oversee the management and implementation of EHCPs within the school community.
- Conduct assessments of pupils with SEN in KS3 and at other points in the school to identify needs and monitor progress.
- Develop and implement targeted learning support strategies, including exam technique and study skills.
- Liaise with external professionals such as psychologists, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists.
- Provide training and guidance to classroom teachers on supporting pupils with SEN.
- Develop and maintain systems for accurate and up-to-date pupil records.
- Manage and advise on the school budget and resources allocated to SEN provision.
- Promote the visibility and standing of the Learning Support Department across the school.
- Support the professional development of SEN teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Hold or be working towards the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or equivalent Level 7 Leadership NPQ for SEND.
- Proven experience in a similar role, with a strong understanding of SEN policies and procedures.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
Preferred
- Experience in developing and implementing SEN strategies at a school level.
- Familiarity with the ISI inspection framework and standards.
- Experience with curriculum development and inclusive teaching practices.
- Knowledge of current national and local SEN policies and best practices.
