The Opportunity:
As a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities. You will be responsible for promoting high standards of inclusion and ensuring that all pupils receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop high-quality SEN provision across the school.
- Coordinate and monitor the quality of SEN support delivered by teachers and teaching assistants.
- Liaise with parents, external agencies, and staff to ensure continuity of provision and support.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including the SEND register and relevant policies.
- Support the identification and assessment of special educational needs through classroom observation and individual screening.
- Deliver timely responses to commissioning partners and ensure compliance with statutory expectations.
- Lead the development and review of Education, Health, and Care Plans in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
- Provide professional guidance and support to staff on SEN-related matters and contribute to staff appraisals and professional development.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Relevant experience in special educational needs and disabilities.
- In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current educational policies.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with parents, staff, and external agencies.
- Experience in developing and implementing SEN strategies and support plans.
Preferred
- Experience in leading INSET sessions on SEND-related topics.
- Familiarity with vocational training frameworks such as AQA and ASDAN.
- Experience in pastoral support, SaLT, or occupational therapy.
- Experience in managing admissions processes for SEN students.
