Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach English across the senior school age range (KS3 to A level), ensuring students develop strong writing and reading skills.
  • Deliver a challenging and diverse curriculum that promotes critical thinking and a love of literature.
  • Contribute to the department’s strong record of academic success, including GCSE and A Level results.
  • Support students in preparing for Edexcel IGCSE in English Language and AQA GCSE in English Literature.
  • Engage in and enhance the department’s extra-curricular programme, including writing competitions, theatre trips, and literary societies.
  • Collaborate with the school library to provide fortnightly lessons for Years 7, 8, and 9.
  • Participate in the pastoral and wider life of the school through cultural, sporting, and other activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience teaching English across the senior school age range (KS3 to A level).
  • Strong academic record and a commitment to developing students’ communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to contribute to a successful and ambitious English department.
  • Willingness to participate in the school’s extra-curricular programme.

Preferred

  • Experience with Edexcel and AQA specifications.
  • Background in organising or leading extra-curricular activities in English.
  • Experience in pastoral care or student mentorship.
  • Familiarity with virtue-based education and character development.
