The Opportunity:
A Vocational Studies Teacher - Construction is needed to deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching that meets the diverse needs of students with complex needs and challenging behaviours. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in a supportive and mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, evidence-informed lessons tailored to the individual needs of students, including those with SEND and trauma histories.
- Use assessment data to monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
- Promote students’ social, emotional, and academic development through trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.
- Maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, aligned with the school’s behaviour policy and Staff Code of Conduct.
- Collaborate with teaching assistants and specialist staff to provide effective support.
- Ensure lessons are inclusive and meet the needs of all learners, including those with complex needs.
- Stay up to date with industry developments and incorporate practical, real-world skills into teaching.
- Support students in developing confidence, self-esteem, and the skills needed for post-16 opportunities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience teaching vocational subjects like Construction
- Proven experience teaching students with complex needs and challenging behaviour
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS)
- Strong understanding of curriculum, assessment, and behaviour management in special education settings
- Ability to plan, deliver, and assess effective teaching and learning
- Commitment to professional conduct, safeguarding, and the Staff Code of Conduct
Preferred
- Experience with trauma-informed teaching practices
- Experience in delivering vocational education in a specialist setting
- Experience with students who have experienced exclusion or challenging behaviours
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Passion for supporting vulnerable students and empowering them to reach their potential
