The Opportunity:

As a Warden - Baxters, you will play a vital role in the pastoral care and development of pupils within your Deme. This is a leadership position that requires a deep commitment to student wellbeing, academic support, and fostering a positive school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support the pastoral care of pupils in your Deme, ensuring their social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • Monitor pupil progress through regular communication with Form Tutors and by attending school events and co-curricular activities.
  • Ensure pupils understand and adhere to the school’s Code of Conduct and promote a culture of equality and inclusion.
  • Liaise with key staff members, including the Deputy Head (Pupils), the Director of Safeguarding, and the School Nurse.
  • Support pupils and parents in subject and university choices and contribute to UCAS references.
  • Organise and oversee the Deme’s involvement in sporting, co-curricular, and community activities.
  • Manage and develop Form Tutors, ensuring they meet the school’s standards and policies.
  • Attend meetings of the Pastoral Board and contribute to the review and improvement of pastoral policies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in pastoral care and student support within an educational setting.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to manage a team of Form Tutors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • Experience in safeguarding and child protection, with the ability to follow and implement school policies.
  • Commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and diversity within the school community.
  • Ability to manage and monitor pupil progress and development through regular liaison and reporting.

Preferred

  • Experience in a senior pastoral role within a school or college.
  • Knowledge of PSHE and personal development programmes.
  • Experience in organising and managing co-curricular and sporting activities.
  • Familiarity with pupil tracking systems and data analysis.
  • Experience in writing UCAS references and supporting pupils with university applications.
